-Rock im Park- und -Rock am Ring- Videos

Rodrigo sent me this video link of Orion in Rock am Ring. I was in Rock im Park, but the show was exactly the same. After all I did not realize the video was from the previous day before I re-read the title.

There are also some videos from Rock im Park, but grabbed using a cellphone as a camera, here and here.

Rock Im Park 2006

I was yesterday in Rock Im Park. I only went to see Metallica. The show was great, the (long) playlist was something like:

(yeah, they played the whole Master of Puppets album because it was its 20th birthday)

I did not bring my camera, but today some photos started to appear in flickr. The official gallery is here.

Other bands that were there include Depeche Mode, Placebo, Tool, Franz Ferdinand, Korn, Morrissey, Bela B., Reamonn, Nelly, Furtado, Sportfreunde Stiller, Deftones, Pharrell, Turbonegro, Tomte, Kaiser Chiefs, Dir en grey, Paul Weller, Goldfrapp, Dresden Dolls, She Wants Revenge, u.v.a.

The above photos are © 2000-2006 Nordbayern Infonet.

Nürnberg turning into Europe's "Linux Valley."?

SUSE, Lucent Technologies, Siemens, Fraunhofer Institute ... Formerly a typical blue-collar region, the Franconia area around Nuremberg is trying hard to transform itself into a high-tech center. Some 90,000 people now work in the approximately 2,000 IT companies located there.

Mass download original photos from flickr

I was searching for a way to download original photos from flickr in a batch mode. I tried several programs like Flickr Backup and Flickr Downloadr, but neither of both suit me.

Like many others, I think the redesign of Google (Google Redux: a design exercise) made by Andy Rutledge is awesome. So, when I found a Greasemonkey script to make it real, I installed it at once. Here is the latest user script.

Can you help me discover more music that I'll like?

Pandora is a great service which help you to find music that you like. Something like Music Plasma, but it plays the music. It's like having a radio station personalize with your "music tastes".

>PS: Why are you writting in English? Well, I'm studying the TOEFL and GMAT to applied for an MBA. So, I think that's is a good practice to write a little in English. I'd like to ask you, that if you find a mistake in my English, please correct me in the comments o send me a e-mail with the correction.

Anti-tolerancia

>

Hello again

It has been long time since I blogged. Mostly because I was not at home and when I was I did not feel like doing something in the computer other than listening music.

I had to do a quick visit to the States because work, and then my brother came from Paris to my place to spend Christmas together. I showed him Nürnberg and then quick trips to Prag (my 2nd time, and the third is coming...) and Berlin for new year.

I got a hard disk based mp3 player. The cool thing is that it can play ogg files and also works as a standard usb-storage device.

It has its problem though. Like most player, the jukebox database is completely proprietary. Emailing the company did not work as it was a rebranded product. Emailing the original makers resulted only in getting ignored.

After playing with khexedit for a while I was able to figure the simple fixed field length format of the binary database. I wrote a test program using Qt and Taglib (thanks Scott, it rocks, so simple...) to recreate the database for my collection. I haven't however yet figured the index files. Also, I have no idea how to read the FAT short names so I have to mount has VFAT to copy and keep the nice names, but as MSDOS to generate the database and see the shortnames the player stores in the database. Once I figure out the indexes, it should work. If it does, I plan to write an amaroK media device plugin (no idea how to resolve the mount issue here).

KDE, darts and glühwein

On friday, in the need of sweet and hot wein and some food, half dozen of KDE guys took over the Nürnberger Weihnachtsmarkt.

Coolo and the half meter wurst

The night was followed by Dunkel Bier and a darts deathmatch. No surprise I won so fast that nobody let my play anymore. Coolo is satisfied with a 2nd place. Dirk still can't get under 500 points (you start with 501). Will used the Royal Air Force superpowers to get rid of the points, but some random luck worked better. The girl sitting next to the target still has nightmares about Beineri throwing darts to her. It was a fun night.

The target Duncan & dards

The night ended with Whiskey at Will's place. More pictures here

Stock Spam

Gmail does a good job filtering spam. But since some weeks a spammer is flooding gmail with pump and dump spam:

This is a common scam where spam emails hype shares of a little known company, of which the spammer has previously aquired stock. When sufficient people fall for the scam and start placing buy orders, the market value of the stock rises and the spammer can sell at a profit

Of course, as all the stuff you get by email, it is just crap. This site shows you how much money you would have lost if you would have invested in those stock.

Christmas tree, Paris, Berlin, KDE

On friday, after visiting the Nuernberg Wiehnachtsmarkt and having dinner with Will and Lisann, I went out with Daniel and Thomas, who introduced me to some new people from Spain and Eslovaquia. We were in like four different places over the night, but we ended in the parkcafe, which I wanted to visit since long time, as it is very close to my place.

I got a Christmas tree, thanks to Will (who is getting a bigger one). My place looks really better with it. I will spend Christmas with my brother, who is coming from Paris after a hard semester studying. But he seems to have *lot* of fun there. I think I am going to visit Paris earlier than originally planned.

I booked a flight for Michael and me to Berlin for new year, that will be really cool.

Today, KDE 3.5 was released, and one of the killer features is webcam support for Kopete. The team has done and incredible work, specially the new younger developers. There is a visual guide introducing the new features here.

My University teacher Jaime, who was my MSc. thesis advisor, sent my this link to the presentation given by Dick Hardt, Founder & CEO, Sxip Identity. The style of the presentation is really cool. It is worth to see it. Congrats to him!

Today I bought batteries for my guitar digital processor. It has been a long time since I played "plugged". After my brother opened the effects processor to fix it after it burned throwing white smoke. (putting in practice his new knowledge in electronics by that time), now it has its own life. It turns on/off randomly, shows strange characters in the LCD screen, and you can not turn it off without pulling off the batteries.
