weekend
From Inge Wallin’s blog, I learned that OpenDocument is now a ISO standard.
I updated tor and torK packages from the security:privacy repository in the openSUSE build service. I updated also gnash (flash player replacement) to version 0.7.2.
Yesterday I went to see Shantel // Bucovina Club. The party was good and i liked the music. You can get some sample mp3’s from Shantel here.
weekend, don’t click UIs
As I survived last Sunday, Will tried again. This time the place was tiergarten (zoo). Ciaran also joined. The trail of last week was completely flat. This was not, and we did 49 km instead of the 38 km last week. I survivived!, but my bike did not. Some pieces need replacement.
We need to buy Will a gps. I will setup a .org site and paypal donations soon.
This website claims to be a research center testing don’t-click style interfaces. But the first don’t click application I used comes from the Kaserne labs at SUSE. It is nothing less than Kickoff, the new KDE menu present in 10.2 betas, and I am a complete fan of it.
bike
Yesterday I used my bike out of the city for first time since it arrived from Chile. Will showed me a road that connects Nürnberg with Heroldsberg and Oedenberg. Well, there are hundred of different ways to do it. We did 38.6 km in total.
I barely can walk today!
ecryptfs. spca5xx packages.
Yesterday we enjoyed a nice party at Will’s place. I was definitely defeated on Karaoke by Lisann.
spca5xx webcam drivers package builds again for all SUSE versions, including factory.
Today I found about eCryptfs:
eCryptfs (SourceForge page) is a POSIX-compliant enterprise-class stacked cryptographic filesystem for Linux. It is derived from Erez Zadok’s Cryptfs, implemented through the FiST framework for generating stacked filesystems. eCryptfs extends Cryptfs to provide advanced key management and policy features. eCryptfs stores cryptographic metadata in the header of each file written, so that encrypted files can be copied between hosts; the file will be decryptable with the proper key, and there is no need to keep track of any additional information aside from what is already in the encrypted file itself. Think of eCryptfs as a sort of “gnupgfs.”
I haven’t tried packaging it yet. But could be a nice addition to the security:privacy repository in the build service. Also you may want to give a look to TPM keyrings.
finally
Upgraded to nvidia beta driver 1.0-9625 and my desktop machine feels usable again. For months it was slower than my laptop. Now it feels responsive.
My old T22 laptop received a memory, battery and wlan upgrade. All from ebay. I just like it so I did not feel like changing it yet.
Also I found some time to re-setup my KDE4 development environment.
Sun shines
The sun shines over Nürnberg. The air is cold and fresh. I like this combination.
Yesterday Paella at the Galician centre. Then pisco sour at home with Will.
Loreto approved the Paella!, not bad, considering Paella is not galician food they did it quite good. Fotos coming.
I need to give a look to this libraries from Adobe, they just started a review process to be accepted in boost. Presentation here. On the other hand, the pimpl_ptr library was rejected.
Familia en casa.
Familia de regreso en Chile/Paris. Realmente fueron 2 semanas llenas de anecdotas y aproveche mucho el tiempo con ellos.
Barcelona
Stuttgart, dead harddisk
Nice trip to Stuttgart on weekend. Found that both Mercedes and Porsche factories are there, visited both. The Mercedes was full of people; waiting time 1 hour so we did not enter.
I usually leave my computer on 24×7 except when traveling. If I will not be at home for some days I usually disconnect all the plugs. However most of my computer problems always happen when turning them on after being off for a while. Yesterday was no exception.
SUSE boots, and aborts init with wrong root filesystem. I booted into safe mode and found “device added “device removed” lot of times messages from my SATA drive. No panic. I got this same problem some months ago and it went away alone. I gave up trying to make it boot. I booted with a Gnome Parted CD I have around to resize my partitions, and I was able to mount my root partition. My data is there. So what is the problem? bug in Factory kernel? Any tip is appreciated.
weekend, akademy, zypp
Busy weekend. Darts and billard with Loreto and Will on Friday. Will won all matches. Then some Playstation karaoke at Will’s place. Lost twice against Lisann for only 10 points. It turned into a deathmatch. I will win next time.
Michael commited last pieces for patch/delta rpms support. I integrated them to the main zypp branch. They will see light soon, both in the new alphas, and as 10.1 updates as well.
Even if for a moment I thought it would be impossible to make it due to my schedule. I will be in Akademy. A little bit late, but still enough to meet lof of the Kguys. And I hope at time to challenge Aaron for a “who sings worse” karaoke match. A challenge that should be two or three years old already
