You would need a service to properly index the applications, so that they can easily be filtered, rated, reviewed, etc.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The user may have an unusual file/document, the open function would have to determine the (MIME) type, and then un-installed applications/services could be offered to open that (MINE) type, also filtering on other attributes, and sorting by rating - a bit like the Plasma widget installer. I&#039;m not sure how you get the best, but new and little used application to sort to the top of the list - I suppose branding.&lt;/p&gt;
