&lt;p&gt;The point is that lot of the decisions KDE made on the way to build its platform seemed weird at that time, but they were because needs that everyone faces right now.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Actually there is no point in discussion because now there is much more consensus and shared views about what things are needed, instead of religious ideas about what can be used and not.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Don&#039;t forget that a lot of GNOME people read Planet KDE as well. I am not at all interested in anything that could start an endless &#039;us vs them&#039; discussion. Not sure what your point is with bringing such things up. Further, a group of people is just that, a group of people. There will be conflicting opinions; that is not illogical.&lt;/p&gt;
