the fact is that Kopete is designed for linux-kinda' OS and windows is not Linux. I'd love to run kopete on win too, but maybe is better if I run Linux :P

I am very excited by the possibility of Kopete for Windows, since Kopete is currently the only free software/open source instante messenger which supports video and audio and uses multiple formats. Unfortunately, the "KDE for Windows installer" is poorly designed because it doesn't let you select just a single application. Instead you have to install a general package which includes several applications. Even worse the installer doesn't tell you which KDE applications are included in the packages (although you can find some information about the included applications on this page). Kopete is included in the "kdenetwork-msvc" package, but to get it you have to download 36 other packages as well, which is a real pain if you have an internet connection running at only 25 Kilobits/second like me. The Windows installer only comes in English and it makes you click for a number of complicated screens. When it does install, it doesn't create a handy launcher on the desktop or in the panel. Instead you have to go to Start > Programs > KDE Release 2.2.2 > Internet > Kopete (Instant Messenger) to launch Kopete. I haven't fully tested Kopete in Windows but other people report that jabber won't work because two of the necessary files (libidn-11.dll and qca-tls) weren't included in the kdenetwork-msvc package.

It would be really nice if someone would create a Windows installer just for Kopete and a web page listing what functions work in Windows and any tricks for making it work in Windows. I understand that Kopete is primarily a Linux app, but it would be nice to have a decent open source alternative to MS Messenger for Windows.
