I am interested in trying to build YAST2 etc on a conary system. I have been told that it is not possible.

Where would I start to get more info on how things work?

It is about time. I have always avoided fedora for the ease that patches can make the system un-update-able and unstable. Yahoo has alway been easier to stay stable but there have been time I have had to trash it due to third party software. This is a great relief and takes a big pain out of these linux operating systems. Congratulations to each worker that assisted in this effort.

Great to see that interoperability is taken seriously. If we really want to build a strong and large community, we have to ensure that openSUSE's technologies are available everywhere.
Keep up the great work!

I'm in process of getting the zypp stack working on Fedora, as part of that I recently submitted sat-solver, libzypp and zypper to Fedora reviewers in order to get them packaged (hopefully) for fedora 10.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=442714

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=447738

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=447740

A package containing customized .repo files for fedora is coming
